Katikati Stags Go Pink for Breast Cancer Cause in Big Win
Moore Park was buzzing on Saturday 17 May when the Katikati Stags hosted the Arataki Makos in a rugby match that doubled as a fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Support Trust Tauranga. Fans and players alike turned out in pink, with the Stags even wearing pink strapping tape on the field to show their solidarity with the cause.
Arataki made a strong fist of it, crossing the line twice to take the lead at halftime, but the Stags came out with renewed purpose after the break. Valami Bula opened the scoring with the first try of the day — converted by the reliable boot of Fero Sukanaivalu, who maintained a perfect kicking record throughout — and the Stags piled on five more tries in the second half through Bula again, Nemani Lulusini, John Nanovo, Tyler Mitai-Sykes, Lou Mokofisi, and Apo Tuilawaki.
The final whistle confirmed a 38–27 win for the Stags, keeping them at the top of the table. Liti Uilou was named Player of the Match. Coach Quinton Landman thanked Arataki for a tough contest, as well as supporters, sponsors and volunteers who made the day possible. The Stags are next on the road to face Rangiuru at 1pm on Saturday 24 May.
