Katikati Stags Defeat Eastern Districts 38–17 on Sponsors Day

Katikati Rugby & Sports Club had plenty to celebrate on Saturday 3 May, when the Stags put in a dominant second-half performance to beat Eastern Districts 38–17 at home. After weeks of soggy weather, the sun finally came out for what turned into a memorable Sponsors Day, with the grandstand packed and a lively sponsors' area buzzing with local business supporters. The Stags set the tone early with a converted try to lead 7–0, though Eastern Districts fought back strongly, edging ahead 17–15 by half-time. In the second spell the home side shifted gears, piling on four more tries to seal a convincing victory. Joel Madsen was accurate with the boot throughout.

The day had a strong community flavour beyond the rugby itself. The Katikati Volunteer Fire Brigade ran a sausage sizzle, with the club hosting two meat raffles to help raise funds for their upcoming winter tournament costs. The Katikati Netball Club's Premier 1 team was also on site fundraising. After the final whistle, players, sponsors and supporters gathered for a lively after-match with food and plenty of good cheer. Coach Quinton Landman, who wrote the match report, extended a heartfelt mihi to everyone who made the day possible.
