Beloved Katikati Sculpture 'Barry' Awaits Repairs After Being Hit

One of Katikati's most recognisable public artworks is temporarily out of view after reportedly being struck by a vehicle and damaged. Katikati Open Air Art committee member Steve Graveson confirmed the incident occurred on 27 April, and the sculpture — affectionately known as Barry — is currently sitting in Graveson's shed awaiting what he described as its "operation and recovery".

Details about the full extent of the damage and the repair timeline are still being worked through, with Graveson noting he was yet to confirm all the specifics of what would be needed to restore the piece to its rightful place in town.
