Katikati Budget Cooking Course Launches to Tackle Cost of Living

A new cooking course is being launched in Katikati to help people manage the daily challenge of putting affordable, nutritious meals on the table amid rising food prices and cost-of-living pressures. The programme is run through Kura Kai, a community food initiative, with co-ordinator Megan Branks leading the classes.

Branks said the course will cover practical skills such as shopping using seasonal produce, meal planning, straightforward cooking techniques, and strategies for reducing ingredient costs. A central aim is teaching participants how to transform a single ingredient or product into several different dishes, helping households stretch their grocery budgets further.
