Te Puke Hosts Free Hazardous Waste Disposal Day
Western Bay of Plenty District Council is organising a free hazardous waste disposal day in Te Puke on Sunday, May 25. The MyHazWaste event, funded by the Waste Minimisation Levy and run in partnership with 3RGroup, offers residents a safe way to dispose of household hazardous waste including poisons, pool chemicals, garden sprays, solvents and some automotive fluids.
Registrations are now open and must be completed before May 17, with spots limited. Registered residents will receive confirmation of their dedicated time slot before the event. Walk-ups are not possible. From May 1, the district's three recycling centres will no longer accept hazardous waste due to increased health and safety requirements and chemical handling costs. Most collected materials are disposed of through certified New Zealand companies, with some sent offshore for safe disposal.
