Katikati Primary Students Raise Funds with Colour Fun Run
About 500 students at Katikati Primary School finished Term 1 in style with the kura's first ever Colour Fun Run Day, raising both funds and spirits on the last day of term. Loud squeals of joy echoed across the school's back field as children made their way through a colourful obstacle course to a soundtrack of lively dance music.
The course featured a water slide entrance, tyre steps, a slime pool, pool noodle jumps, a cone maze, hurdles, limbo, cargo net crawls, and a streamer-lined finish line. Teachers and parent volunteers stationed along the route puffed powdered colour onto students' T-shirts, while Katikati Volunteer Fire Brigade firefighters joined in with the fire hose. Food trucks and a coffee cart were also on site.
The event was organised by the KKPS Parents of the School (POTS) group, with around 20 volunteers arriving from 8am to set up. The day wrapped up with a highlight voted for by the students themselves — the sliming of two teachers. Karen Cross and Jennie McKeown were duly slimed by principal Andrea Nicholson, assisted by teacher Ashlee Roche, to the delight of the whole school.
