Youth-led $129,000 park upgrade planned for Katikati

A youth-driven community project is set to deliver major improvements to a Katikati park, with an estimated total cost of $129,000 to be rolled out in three stages. The initiative stems directly from what young people in the area said they wanted — spaces where they can gather, be active and feel a sense of belonging.

Katikati College students have been involved in the process, gaining practical skills along the way. Steering group member John Bothwell emphasised that the project was a direct response to the voices of young people in the community. The first stage of the project will include a barbecue, seating and related amenities, with further details on the remaining stages expected to be released soon.

The project sits within the broader Katikati Community Led Development initiative, which has an extensive programme of work under way to create more outdoor and leisure opportunities for youth and whānau in the area.
