Katikati Bird Gardens celebrates 21st Easter egg hunt

A much-loved Katikati tradition returns this Easter Sunday when the Katikati Bird Gardens hosts its 21st annual great Easter egg hunt. Running from noon to 3pm on 20 April at the 4-hectare gardens on Walker Road East, Aongatete, the event has drawn more than 300 children in past years and is free with regular garden admission.

Dozens of coloured balls will be hidden throughout the gardens for tamariki to find and swap at the café for a chocolate Easter bunny egg. Children can also count the pink rabbits hidden around the grounds, with correct counters going into a draw to win a giant chocolate bunny egg. The beloved character Binky — known for his oversized ears and cheeky grin — will be roaming the gardens and available for photos.

Gardens owner Scott Robertson said the event was all about local families coming together for a great Easter. He encouraged visitors to arrive before noon to avoid lunchtime queues, as the gardens open from 10am. Several Bird Gardens staff and Katikati College Leos will be on hand to help run the day.
