Simply Short Play Festival Celebrates Local Theatre with Six Original Works

Te Puke Repertory is proudly presenting six original plays at the third biennial Simply Short Play Festival in Te Puke this month. The festival selection panel coordinated by Owen Force received 20 submissions and selected six plays that offer variety while fulfilling the festival's objectives.

The selected plays include works by Michelle Cliff, Colleen Pye, and others, each bringing unique creative perspectives. Playwright Colleen Pye noted that her plays are drawn from real-life situations, saying the measure of her work is not about how much people laugh or cry but whether it resonates in their own lives. The festival, which has been running since 2020, is intended for adults and young adults, with organizers noting the quality and number of submissions continue to grow each year.
