Kids Hunting and Fishing Competition Launches in Bay of Plenty
A new hunting and fishing competition designed exclusively for children aged 13 and under is set to take place from 11 to 13 April in the Bay of Plenty. The event was dreamed up by Scott and Sarah Adamson from Aongatete and some friends who wanted to create a fun outdoor competition for young people in the community.
"We just wanted to have some competition amongst friends and then thought we might get the community involved as well, and it all just fell into place. Our kids love the outdoors and we all enjoy seeing them light up," said Sarah. The event is individual-based with no teams.
On the hunting side, eligible species include possums, rabbits, hares and magpies, with a prize going to whoever bags the most magpies. For fishing, target species include snapper, kahawai, trevally, kingfish, spotty and piper. Hunting can take place anywhere in the Bay of Plenty where it is legally permitted.
Registration and kids' goodie bags will be available on 11 April from 3.30pm to 6pm at TrailorMade, 2697 SH2. Children do not need to be present at registration. The weigh-in will be held at TrailorMade on 13 April from 1pm to 3pm, with prizegiving at 4pm. For more information, email kidshuntingandfishingcomp@gmail.com.
