Katikati Volunteer Fire Brigade Recruits New Members at Open Day

Katikati Volunteer Fire Brigade held an open day on Saturday, 29 March to attract new recruits to its ranks. Visitors to the Sheffield St station were given tours of the fire station, introduced to recently trained ex-recruits, and had the chance to look over the fire trucks up close.

The day also included fitness training demonstrations, an Escape colouring-in activity for kids, a waterways demonstration, and the use of an inflatable fire truck clearance display to show the width and clearance space required for engines to pass through.

Deputy chief Craig Gray said the event was a success, with three new non-operational staff and four potential firefighters expressing interest in joining the brigade as a result. Gray also said he would like to see more women consider joining, describing it as a rewarding role for everyone.
