Orchid Show Highlights Wilma Fitzgibbons' Passion for Miniature Varieties

Wilma Fitzgibbons, a long-standing member of the Bay of Plenty Orchid Society, is bringing her extensive collection of miniature orchids to the society's annual show on April 4-5 in Te Puke. Known for her expertise in smaller orchid species that often require a magnifying glass to fully appreciate, Fitzgibbons has been a passionate grower since joining the society in 1979.

The two-day show will run from 10am-4pm on April 4 and 10am-3pm on April 5 at Te Puke Memorial Hall, entry $3 for adults. The event will feature sales tables, growers from Auckland and Napier, displays and sales of complementary plants like hoyas, and expert society members available to offer advice on orchid care and maintenance. The society strategically chose an autumn date decades ago when no other orchid shows were held, and the event has since become popular with enthusiasts.
