Waihi Beach Library and Community Hub Reaches Concrete Milestone
The new Waihi Beach library and community hub has hit a significant construction milestone, with the concrete floor having been poured at the $5.5 million facility. Western Bay of Plenty District councillors, Waihi Beach Community Board members, and community centre committee members gathered on site to mark the occasion, celebrating the partnership driving the project forward.
The building is being constructed in front of the existing library and community centre, creating an opportunity for a shared services model that will give the Waihi Beach community access to services not currently available locally. The new facility will include multi-functional spaces and additional meeting rooms for both library users and community groups. Council infrastructure general manager Cedric Crow confirmed the project is on budget and on track to open by July.
Council strategy and community general manager Rachael Davies said modern libraries are dynamic places where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to share ideas, gain knowledge, and take part in community life. The Waihi Beach Community Centre Committee has been closely involved throughout the planning and development process to ensure upgrades to their facility are a success. Davies said the new hub will support not only traditional library services but also fresh opportunities for community engagement and connection.
