Ōmokoroa Dash Celebrates 20 Years of Waka Ama Racing

This weekend, the Tauranga Moana Outrigger Canoe Club is hosting its 20th Dash event at Ōmokoroa Beach. The annual competition has grown to become a beloved tradition for paddlers in the region.

Around 300 paddlers will participate in both a competitive 10km race and a family-friendly 5km race. The event promotes inclusivity, inviting families and novices to race together. With emphasis on community values and family-focused experiences, the Dash event showcases the spirit of waka ama racing while celebrating the rich culture it fosters.
