National Ducati Rally Roars Into Tauranga for the First Time

Around 150 Ducati motorcycles will descend on Tauranga next month for the National Ducati Rally — the first time the event has been held in the city since the rally began in 2003. The annual gathering alternates between the North and South Island, and this year Bay of Plenty riders are thrilled to be hosting on home turf.

Bay of Plenty ride director John Rowe said there is a strong local contingent of Western Bay of Plenty members travelling from Katikati and Waihi Beach, and excitement has been building ahead of the weekend. "There's a real sense of excitement when Ducati events roll around," he said. "It's going to be an epic weekend."

The pack will arrive at Trinity Wharf Tauranga on Friday 28 February for an AGM, pre-function and dinner. Saturday morning is the public's chance to get up close with the gleaming machines at a show and shine event on the Trinity waterfront berm from 9am to 11am, before riders head off through Tauriko, Pyes Pā, Hamurana and into the Mamaku Ranges before finishing at Okoroire. A gala evening with a guest speaker and prizegiving rounds out the weekend.

The Bay of Plenty chapter rides every few weeks and holds a monthly club night. They are actively looking for new members — anyone with a Ducati of any description is welcome, including pillion passengers, with members ranging in age from their 20s to their 70s.
