Katikati Toy Library Overcomes Carpet Company Collapse

The Katikati Community Toy Library has finally got new carpet underfoot after a frustrating ordeal that nearly derailed two years of planning. The committee had been working hard to upgrade their facility and launch a new weekly activity for preschoolers, only to hit a major snag right at the finish line in late 2024.

After paying a $7,000 deposit to replace the worn-out carpet in their premises, the flooring company went into liquidation — and the deposit could not be recovered. Despite this setback, the library managed to push through and the new carpet is now in place, with the facility ready to go for 2025.

"We couldn't have done this without the help of the community and the businesses that got behind us," said Katikati Toy Librarian Sandy Goode. The outcome is a testament to the support local whānau and businesses showed when the project hit trouble.
