Katikati’s New Waitangi Day Celebrations a Hit

Katikati's reimagined Waitangi Day celebrations brought together hundreds of locals and visitors for a family-friendly event. Held at Haiku Park, the day featured various cultural activities and live performances.

This year’s event, organised by the Western Bay Museum, replaced the previous dawn service with a midday celebration, encouraging more families to participate. Attendees enjoyed food, music, and interactive cultural activities, fostering a sense of unity and community spirit.

Museum manager Paula Gaelic noted the positive social media response with over 8000 views, highlighting the event’s success. Plans are underway to expand the craft marquee for next year to accommodate more cultural activities.
