Te Puke's Pickleball Community Grows to 20+ Players
Pickleball has arrived in Te Puke, brought to the district by local resident Wendy Smyth after she discovered the sport while playing with her mum and brother in Auckland. Described as a game combining elements of badminton, squash, and tennis, pickleball has its own unique character that has captured players' hearts.
Smyth fell in love with the sport and decided to start her own local club. Eager to get the community involved, she dipped into her own pocket to purchase equipment and promote the initiative on Facebook. Her efforts have paid off, and the Te Puke Pickleball Club now boasts 20 or more active players who gather every Monday and Wednesday to play.
