Katikati Reserve to Be Given Formal Māori Name

Western Bay of Plenty District Council has received a request to officially name a small recreation reserve at the corner of Park and Beach Roads in Katikati. The proposed name is Paeahi Wanakore Reserve, replacing the informal title of Park/Beach Road Recreation Reserve. The site covers approximately 1,475 square metres.

Residents who wish to support or oppose the naming are invited to make a written submission. These can be dropped off at any Council office, posted to Private Bag 12803, Tauranga Mail Centre 3143, or emailed to reserves@westernbay.govt.nz. Full details and a plan are available from Joanne Hino or Wendy O'Neill in the Reserves and Facilities team on 0800 926 732.

Submissions close on 7 March 2025. Council chief executive John Holyoake noted that written submissions may be made publicly available as part of the consultation and decision-making process, in keeping with the Privacy Act 2020.
