Katikati Menz Shed settles into its forever home
After several years of uncertainty and working out of temporary spaces, the Menz Shed Katikati has finally moved into a purpose-built facility at 33 Middlebrook Drive that the members can truly call their own. The new space is owned by Western Bay of Plenty District Council and also houses Katikati Community Patrol and Katikati Community Van.
Member Mike O'Donnell says the men are thrilled with the gleaming new workshop, noting that visiting members from other sheds have expressed a little envy. With that pride of place comes a sense of responsibility — the group wants to make the facility work for the wider community in 2025.
The shed is open Monday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, and members are keen to hear from school groups, educational institutions, community organisations or individuals wanting to upskill in woodworking or other trades. Skilled members will be on hand to guide anyone who comes through. The group also hopes to expand its involvement with computer numerical control (CNC) equipment to attract younger members.
Menz Shed Katikati already undertakes projects for churches, schools, kindergartens, KatchKatikati and council, as well as smaller jobs for individuals at modest rates. Anyone interested in using the facility is encouraged to get in touch.
