Katikati Avocado Food and Wine Festival draws record crowd

Nearly 4500 people from across the region and beyond made their way to the Uretara Domain in Katikati on 11 January for the annual Avocado Food and Wine Festival, marking the biggest attendance ever recorded at the event. Visitors enjoyed six hours of food, drink, and live entertainment from noon until 6pm, with a brief downpour arriving just as the festival wrapped up for the day.

The DMS Main Stage kept energy levels high throughout, with performances from Kokomo, Tiki Taane, White Chapel Jak, and Katchafire getting the crowd on their feet. More than 40 vendors offered everything from avocado-inspired kai to kombucha, wine, beer, cocktails, and cider. Chef Brad King, joined by apprentice Hamish Pennel, drew a packed audience in the Seeka Kitchen Marquee with a live demonstration of five unique avocado creations.

Families were well catered for, with the Kids' Zone offering face-painting, circus workshops, and games. KatchKatikati manager Jacqui Knight said she was thrilled with the turnout, particularly the number of children who helped create a wonderful whānau atmosphere. Attendees travelled from as far afield as Auckland, Hauraki, and Waikato.

Event manager Kylie Watkins thanked everyone who attended and acknowledged the musicians, vendors, volunteers, and sponsors who made the day a success. Organisers have already confirmed the next festival will be held on Saturday 10 January 2026.
